Creating an evaluation copy of your software is not optional...

Would you buy a car without test driving the car first? The same is true with software, User's expect to be able to evaluate your software. This gives the developer two options; risk losing sales or increase return rates by not offering an evaluation edition or spend additional time in development. Typically development will create the software and then split it into two versions where one of these is the unregistered (or demo) version. Typically this edition is limited in some way. For example, the evaluation of Dreamweaver only lets you use the product for 30 days. Some programs disable the save feature or "transition" the software to disabled after a period of time. The demo is the version that is distributed over the net, generally for free, however it is the most expensive edition to create. Not only does creating an evaluation edition of your software increase the time it takes to distribute your software but it also adds complexity which increases product defects and support costs.

The other version is the full version, the complete program. It is not limited in any way and everything the program should be able to do is there. This is what the user who pays gets access too. Sometimes the full version is obtained by entering some sort of password into the demo version. Sometimes the full version is mailed to the user on CD. There's a variety of different ways to get the full version in the hands of the user.

Additional complexity is introduced when the software comes in multiple editions.  Standard editions tend to be very affordable and meet the needs of the majority.  When a user has more advanced needs there is usually a profession or an enterprise edition. Let's not forget these editions also require evaluation copies.  These are also costly to develop and maintain but what options do you have?

Edition Creator allows all editions to be created within a single project. Edition Creator has the power of a developer's SDK but is so simple to use you need not be a developer to create the various editions that are required by your customers. Remove complexity, decrease development effort and support costs.

With Edition Creator you can transition from any edition seamlessly. Go from an evaluation edition to a production edition with a serial number. Transition to an up scaled product (professional or enterprise edition) with a simple dll call or new registry entry. Removing the comlexity within your development process has never been so easy.
